Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how HAATlab, Inc. (“HAATlab,” “we,” or “us”), a Delaware nonprofit corporation, collects, uses, and shares information about people who visit www.thehaatlab.org (the “Site”) or contact us through it. It covers the Site only. Research studies and other programs will have their own notices when they begin.

Information we collect

We collect only what you choose to send us and limited technical data about visits. We do not ask for payment details, government identifiers, or passwords on the Site.

Cookies and analytics

The only cookies the Site may set are Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_M7T6BZBT4N, which expire after two years). We use them only to measure how the Site is used. We have turned off Google’s advertising features, and we do not use advertising or social media tracking.

  • European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: analytics stays off unless you select “Accept.”
  • Everywhere else: analytics is on by default. You can turn it off at any time with Cookie settings.
  • Browser privacy signals: if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, analytics stays off.

To work out whether to ask you first, the Site checks which country your connection comes from. We don’t save the result. Your choice is saved in your browser so we don’t ask again. You can also block cookies in your browser settings.

How we use and share information

We use information to respond to you, run the advisory council and expert network, send findings you asked for, and operate and secure the Site. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We share it only with service providers that help us run the Site (Google for analytics, Vercel for hosting, Web3Forms for form delivery, and our email provider); with HAATlab’s board, staff, and advisors who need it to follow up; or when the law requires it. Signing up for one list does not add you to another.

If you nominate someone, please share only professional information about a person you believe would welcome being contacted. When we contact a nominee, we tell them how we received their name.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, then delete it. Our form provider deletes submissions automatically within one year, findings sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe, and Google Analytics deletes its data automatically after no more than 14 months.

Your choices

You can ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, wherever you live. Email privacy@thehaatlab.org with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We respond within 30 days. Every findings email includes an unsubscribe link.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, HAATlab is responsible for your information. We rely on your consent for analytics and findings emails, and on our legitimate interest in responding to you and running our programs. You may withdraw consent at any time and may complain to your local data protection authority.

Children, security, and international visitors

The Site is meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The Site is served over encrypted connections, and only the people who need submissions can access them; no system is perfectly secure. HAATlab is based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Changes and contact

We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. Questions: privacy@thehaatlab.org.
